Introduction: Locally available hill stream carps can be cultured in small streams/streamlets with embankment of the streams/streams on both sides by bamboo fra.

1.  Preparation of bamboo fra

Split bamboo sticks or whole bamboos may be tied one after another either with coconut-fibre thread or nylon thread. The height of the fra may be 6-8 ft and the width of the fra would be as per the width of the streams/streamlets.

2.  Embankment of the stream/streamlets

The bamboo fra are fixed across the streams/streamlets on both up and down sides.

3.   Stocking of the streams/streamlets

Fingerlings of locally available hill streams carps such as Mahseers, Labeo pangusia Barilius sp. etc. with an average weight of 25-30 gms are stocked at the rate of 25,000-30,000 numbers/ha. Fish production of 8,000-10,000 kg/ha/year is expected in this system.
